Airbnb design is a little different than designing for a private client. You need to work hard to tell the story of a house and its location, while also appealing to as many guests as possible. This adorable bungalow, located on the eastern shore of Virginia, was already renovated and already had some furniture, but it still felt empty and sterile. It needed some character and uniqueness to set it apart. Working with the owners, we landed on a “Mid-Mod goes to the beach” style with sleek modern lines and a nod to the nautical location of the home. We gave it that personality that it lacked. Airbnb’s are also about finding creative ways to sleep guests….yes, we turned a tiny closet into a canopy bed!
